# Overview

> What Cloudroom is, how it works, and where to start.

Source: https://www.cloudroom.dev/docs

Cloudroom runs AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Pi Agent. Run them on your own Mac, or in the cloud, where each agent gets its own sandbox and keeps working when your laptop is closed.

> **Status:** Cloudroom is invite-only while we grow. [Join the waitlist](/#waitlist) to get an invite code.

## How it works

You give a task to an agent in the Cloudroom desktop app. The agent runs either on your Mac (a **Local thread**) or in its own cloud sandbox (a **Cloud thread**). Either way, it uses your own subscriptions and calls its model provider directly.

  app -->|Cloud thread| sandbox[Agent in its own cloud sandbox]
  mac --> model[(Your model provider)]
  sandbox --> model
  sandbox --> history[(Saved history)]
```
## Key ideas
- **Thread:** one conversation with one agent. It has its own history, settings, and queue.
- **Harness:** the coding agent that does the work, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Pi Agent. Cloudroom runs it; it does not replace it.
- **Local thread:** runs on your Mac, in your project folder.
- **Cloud thread:** runs in an isolated cloud sandbox with its own Git branch.
- **Core:** the open-source engine that runs agents in the cloud and saves their history.
- **Teleport:** moves a running thread between your Mac and the cloud.
## Where to go next
1. [Get started](/docs/get-started): get access, install the app, and run your first agent.
2. [Local threads](/docs/local-threads): run agents on your Mac.
3. [Cloud threads](/docs/cloud-threads): run agents that keep working after you close your laptop.
4. [Harnesses](/docs/harnesses): connect Claude Code, Codex, and Pi Agent.
5. [FAQ](/docs/faq): pricing, security, and self-hosting.
