What a Claude Code GUI is
Claude Code is a terminal program. It edits files and answers in text. A GUI runs the same Claude Code, with the same plan and settings, and adds a window with sessions, diffs and buttons. Your usage counts the same way. Some GUIs run 1 session, others run many, and some run Codex too.
Terminal tools like cmux and Herdr are not on this list. They are multiplexers rather than GUIs. For those, read our best apps for running multiple Claude Code and Codex agents.
How I picked them
I tested Conductor, T3 Code and Superset myself. The other tools come from their docs, pricing pages and repos, checked on October 20, 2026.

1. Cloudroom: best for running Claude Code, Codex and Pi Agent in the cloud on a free plan
Best for: running Claude Code, Codex and Pi Agent in the cloud on a free plan, from one open-source app.
Cloudroom is an open-source desktop app for coding agents on macOS and Linux. Local threads run 9 harnesses, Cursor included. Cloud threads run Claude Code, Codex, Pi Agent, OpenCode, fx and Hermes, each in its own Linux sandbox and Git branch, on your own account with no token billing.
Teleport moves a Claude Code, Codex, Pi Agent or OpenCode thread between your Mac and the cloud. You can start a thread on your laptop, send it to the cloud, and close the lid.
No other tool on this page hosts cloud agents for Claude Code, Codex and Pi Agent on a free plan. Conductor Cloud needs Pro at $50 a month. Claude Code desktop cloud sessions run Claude only. CloudCLI's hosted plans start at €7 a month. Nimbalyst, T3 Code, Superset and Emdash host no cloud agents.
The free plan gives you 100 cloud agents and 25 hours of cloud compute every 30 days, plus unlimited local agents. Pro is $50 a month. The honest con is that several people cannot work inside the same thread today, and there is no Windows app.
2. Claude Code desktop app: best official GUI
Best for: the official GUI, included in your Claude plan, with local, cloud and SSH sessions.
This is the Code tab of the Claude Desktop app. Each conversation is a session, and the sidebar runs several sessions in parallel. Panes for chat, diff, browser, terminal and file editor sit side by side. The diff view takes line comments, it watches the PR through CI, and a built-in browser previews your app. There is an iOS Simulator pane.
It runs on your machine, in Anthropic's cloud, or over SSH. Cloud sessions keep working after you close the app. It runs Claude models only and is included in Claude plans.
The genuine pro is that it comes from Anthropic, costs nothing on top of your Claude plan, and runs cloud sessions in Anthropic's cloud on that plan. It is the wrong pick if you also want to run Codex or another harness from the same window.
3. Claude Code for VS Code: best for using Claude Code inside VS Code or Cursor
Best for: using Claude Code inside VS Code or Cursor.
This is Anthropic's extension. Its docs call it the recommended way to use Claude Code in VS Code. It needs VS Code 1.94.0 or later and a paid Claude plan, and it also installs in Cursor.
You can review and edit plans before accepting them, auto-accept edits, @-mention files with line ranges, and keep several conversations in tabs or windows. It runs Claude models only.
The genuine pro is that it lives where you already edit code, with plan review and file mentions built in. It is the wrong pick if you do not use VS Code or Cursor, or if you want to run Codex next to Claude Code.
4. Conductor: best for prompting the same agents live with teammates
Best for: prompting the same agents live with teammates (Conductor Multiplayer, Pro and Teams).
Conductor is a proprietary desktop app for Mac. It runs the first-party Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode agents. You bring your own subscriptions and keys. Free is $0 for parallel agents and local workspaces on your Mac. Pro is $50 a month and adds Conductor Cloud, live collaboration for up to 5 Pro users, the Conductor API and a mobile app. Teams is $60 a month per user for any team size.
I bought Pro for $50 on October 3, 2026. Checkout was smooth and a cloud workspace loaded in about 3 to 4 seconds. Local model preferences do not carry over to the cloud, and switching models needs favoriting in settings first. My full take is in the Conductor review.
Multiplayer is the genuine pro. You and your teammates prompt the same agents in real time. Mac only is a con, and Conductor Cloud needs Pro.
5. Nimbalyst: best for visual editors next to your agents
Best for: visual editors next to your agents: mockups, diagrams, data models and slides.
Nimbalyst is an MIT-licensed desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux, with a mobile app for iOS and Android. It runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Copilot agents. You bring your own subscription or API key, or run local models through LM Studio.
Its visual editors cover WYSIWYG markdown, mockups, diagrams, Excalidraw, mind maps, data models, slides, spreadsheets and CSV. Wiki Teams is $20 per user a month, free during beta, and it shares the wiki rather than agent sessions.
Nimbalyst publishes its own Claude Code GUI list and ranks itself first.
The genuine pro is the visual editors sitting next to a running agent. It is the wrong pick if you want hosted cloud agents, because Nimbalyst runs agents on your own machine.
6. T3 Code: best for one free app on every desktop, the web and both phones
Best for: one free app on every desktop, the web and both phones.
T3 Code is free and MIT-licensed. It has desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, a web app, and iOS and Android apps. It runs Codex, Claude, Cursor, Grok, OpenCode and Antigravity.
I tried it on October 5, 2026. Onboarding imported my Claude Code and Codex chats from the last 30 days. I signed up for cloud agents and only got a T3 Connect account. T3 Connect is a tunnel to a machine you run, not hosted cloud. My full take is in the T3 Code review.
The genuine pro is that it is the only tool on this page with desktop apps, a web app and both phone apps, all free. It is the wrong pick if you want hosted cloud agents.
7. CloudCLI: best for Claude Code in a browser tab
Best for: Claude Code in a browser tab, self-hosted for free or hosted from €7 a month.
CloudCLI is a web and mobile UI for Claude Code, Cursor CLI, Codex, Gemini CLI and OpenCode. It is AGPL-3.0. You can self-host it for free. Hosted environments are Hobby €7 a month for 1 environment with 2 CPU cores and 4 GB RAM, Growth €20 a month for 5 environments, and Team €39 a month for 5 environments and 5 members.
The genuine pro is that it opens in any browser and self-hosting costs nothing. It is the wrong pick if you want a native desktop app, or hosted cloud without running a server.
Other Claude Code GUIs worth knowing
Superset is source-available under Elastic License 2.0, with a macOS app, an experimental Linux AppImage, no Windows app, and an iPhone and iPad app. It runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and any CLI agent, each in its own Git worktree. There is a free tier, remote hosts are your own machines, and I tested it on October 8, 2026.
Emdash is Apache-2.0. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, works with 25+ coding agents, and supports remote SSH and per-task environments.
CodePilot is an Electron and Next.js desktop client. It puts Claude Code and Codex in one workspace, with multi-session chat, MCP and skills, and phone control. It is source available under BSL 1.1.
Opcode, formerly Claudia, is a Tauri GUI for Claude Code under AGPL-3.0. Its last code commit was October 16, 2025, and its last release was v0.2.0 on August 31, 2025, with 1 README edit on September 18, 2026 since then. Opcode is unmaintained.

The short version
The official Claude Code desktop app is the default if you only use Claude, and the VS Code extension is the pick inside an editor. Cloudroom ranks first because it runs Claude Code, Codex and Pi Agent in the cloud on a free plan, but Conductor is the one for live work with teammates.
I work at Cloudroom, so weigh that as you read.
